Get out and about with Biomass Connect

Are you interested in alternative fuels for your biomass system? Perhaps you are interested in growing your own on your own land? There are plenty of options available and it is worth going to see the crops and talk to experts. The Biomass Connect project provides such an opportunity through a network of 8 demonstrator hub sites around the UK.

The Biomass Connect trial sites are located at:

  • AFBI, Hillsborough in Northern Ireland
  • BGI, Asheridge, Buckinghamshire
  • IBERS, Aberystwyth
  • NIAB, Headley Hall, Yorkshire
  • Newcastle University
  • Rothamsted Research, North Wyke in Devon
  • SRUC, Ayrshire
  • SRUC, Edinburgh

  • At the sites you can see non wood crops such as:
  • Miscanthus
  • Reed Canary Grass
  • Switchgrass
  • Hemp
  • Sida
  • Silphium

alongside woody crops such as Short Rotation Coppice willow and poplar and Short Rotation Forestry (alder, Eucalyptus, Poplar and Robinia).
